Pulse

$3,200.00

Title: Pulse

Story: I created Pulse to capture the beautiful energy of the sea—its rhythm, its life, its movement, nourishing everything it touches. I wanted this artwork to feel alive, as if the sea had a pule. The sea has always been essential to life here in Australia. For countless generations, its resources have sustained us, traded far and wide by our ancestors, across ancient trade routes that stretched from the coast to deep into the heart of this land.

As a Gundungurra person from the Blue Mountains, I carry a deep connection to these stories. Though the mountains rise far from the shoreline, our people were never separate from the sea. Trade routes flowed like rivers between coastal nations and inland communities, linking us through songlines, ceremony, and the exchange of goods like shells, fish, and knowledge carried across Country. Gundungurra people nestled in the rugged beauty of the Blue Mountains, were part of this vast complex system, tied to the ocean’s abundance through kinship and shared traditions.

In Pulse, I’ve woven this reverence for the sea into every line and curve. The artwork holds space for those old, sacred ways—our connection to land and water, the lifeblood of our people. At its heart, the sea runs like a current, flowing through the piece. On either side, I’ve depicted two large community groups, their shapes and energy intertwined, showing how our lives and stories have always been bound together by the sea’s endless dance. I hope when you look at this, you feel that pulse too, the one that’s kept us going since time began.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT

As proud Indigenous women and emerging Indigenous artist I would like to acknowledge all of our people as the custodians and traditional owners of this great and inspiring land. I acknowledge my own, and all Indigenous People's deep connections and rich culture with the land, skies, stars and waters.

I pay my respects to all of our Elders, past, present and emerging. They are our knowledge keepers, passing on culture and tradition so that we can preserve, share and cherish it.

Yadagee - Thankyou
